For more than 50 years, we have fought beside NYC families from under-resourced communities through a unique combination of services, all focused on protecting education rights and eliminating barriers to success so all students can thrive.
After Emely鈥檚 mom reached out to Advocates for Children, we helped get a thorough evaluation to determine Emely鈥檚 needs. When the DOE still did not offer Emely the help she needed, 星空影视 filed an impartial hearing request to secure placement for Emely in a specialized school for students with learning disabilities, as well as intensive speech therapy and one-on-one tutoring in reading and writing outside of school.
With support from an advocate, shy Irene was able to open up. It was really empowering,鈥 remembers her 星空影视 advocate. 鈥淏ecause she felt comfortable, she could speak up for herself and her needs and talk about what she鈥檚 looking for in her education.鈥

Governor Hochul鈥檚 Executive Budget proposes changes to the formula used to decide how much education funding school districts get from the State for each student. While the formula is out-of-date and needs updating, the Governor鈥檚 proposal would result in NYC Public Schools getting nearly $350M less than they would without these changes. Join us in asking Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature to update the formula to give all schools the funding they need.
